These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of our app, services, and any associated content. By using ZedTranslate, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use our app.

Continued use of ZedTranslate after changes to these terms constitutes acceptance of the updated terms. We will notify users of any material changes through the app or via email if provided.

By downloading, accessing, or using ZedTranslate, you agree to comply with these Terms and any updates we may make. Continued use of the app constitutes acceptance of any revised terms.

2. License to Use the App

We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use ZedTranslate for personal, non-commercial purposes. You agree not to:

  • Copy, distribute, or modify the app or its content
  • Reverse-engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the app's source code
  • Use the app for any illegal or unauthorized purpose
  • Use camera features to capture inappropriate, illegal, or copyrighted content
  • Process documents or images that violate privacy or intellectual property rights
  • Abuse OCR features for unauthorized document processing or data extraction

3. Privacy and Data Protection

Your privacy is important to us. Our app is designed with privacy-first principles:

  • Your translation content is processed locally and never sent to our servers
  • Camera-captured images are processed locally using Google ML Kit for text recognition
  • OCR processing is performed on-device and images are not stored permanently
  • Chat conversations are processed to provide language assistance features
  • Educational progress and lesson completion data is tracked to personalize learning
  • Export and sharing features generate documents locally on your device
  • Your search terms are processed locally and not tracked
  • We do not collect, store, or analyze your translation text (unless you provide feedback)
  • Your translation history is stored locally on your device only
  • We only collect minimal data necessary for app functionality and ad display
  • Translation feedback is collected only when you choose to provide it
  • You can control translation feedback collection through privacy settings

4. Prohibited Activities

You agree not to:

  • Use the app for unlawful purposes
  • Upload or distribute malicious software, viruses, or harmful content
  • Exploit or harm the app, servers, or systems
  • Use automated tools, bots, or scripts to interact with the app
  • Misuse translations, for example, for offensive or misleading purposes
  • Submit excessive translation requests that could overload our systems
  • Upload or process content containing sensitive or inappropriate material
  • Attempt to bypass the 10-word input limit through unauthorized means
  • Manipulate or abuse the rewarded ad system for unfair advantages
  • Provide false, misleading, or malicious feedback on translations
  • Abuse the translation feedback system to spam or disrupt the service
  • Use camera features to capture confidential, copyrighted, or inappropriate documents
  • Process images containing personal information of others without consent
  • Abuse chat features for spam, harassment, or inappropriate conversations
  • Manipulate lesson progress or achievement systems for unfair advantages
  • Export or share content that violates intellectual property rights
  • Use export features to distribute inappropriate or harmful content

5. Translation Accuracy and Usage Guidelines

ZedTranslate provides translations to the best of its ability but does not guarantee 100% accuracy or suitability for official use. By using our app, you acknowledge and agree that:

  • Translations may not always be 100% accurate or culturally appropriate
  • The app combines various methods for generating high-quality translations
  • Translations should not be relied upon for legal, medical, or other critical purposes without professional verification
  • We continuously work to improve accuracy but cannot guarantee perfect results
  • Users should exercise judgment when using translations in sensitive contexts
  • For critical communications, we recommend consulting with native speakers or professional translators
  • We are not liable for any errors, misunderstandings, or damages resulting from the use of translations provided by the app

6. App Usage and Pricing

ZedTranslate is a free translation app that is supported by advertisements:

Basic Features

  • The app is completely free to use with no subscription required
  • No premium features or paid upgrades
  • Advertisements may be shown during app usage
  • You can continue using all features while ads are displayed
  • We strive to show ads in a way that does not disrupt your translation experience

Input Limits

  • Currently limited to 10 words per input
  • This limit helps us provide fast and accurate translations for all users
  • We plan to increase this limit in future updates

Rewarded Ads for Word Limit Bypass

  • When you exceed the 10-word input limit, you may be offered a rewarded ad
  • Watching a 30-second rewarded ad allows you to translate your complete text
  • This feature is completely optional - you can always continue with the 10-word limit
  • Rewarded ads are limited to once every 5 minutes
  • You can decline rewarded ads without any penalty
  • Rewards are provided immediately upon successful ad completion
  • We reserve the right to modify or discontinue this feature at any time

7. Advertisements and Rewards

Ad Types and Frequency

  • Interstitial ads: Full-screen ads shown every 3 translations
  • Rewarded ads: Optional ads for word limit bypass (limited to once every 5 minutes)
  • App open ads: May appear when opening the app
  • Banner ads: Small ads at the bottom of screens (currently disabled)

User Responsibilities for Ads

  • View advertisements displayed within the app
  • Allow collection of minimal data necessary for ad personalization
  • Understand that ad content is provided by third-party networks
  • Not attempt to block, manipulate, or interfere with ad display
  • Use rewarded ads fairly to bypass the 10-word input limit
  • Not abuse the rewarded ad system for unfair advantages

Rewarded Ads Terms

  • Rewarded ads are completely optional and voluntary
  • You must watch the entire ad to receive the reward
  • Rewards are provided immediately upon successful ad completion
  • We do not guarantee ad availability - ads may not always be available
  • Ad content is provided by third-party advertisers, not by us
  • We are not responsible for the content or accuracy of advertisements
  • You can decline rewarded ads without any penalty

Ad Data and Privacy

  • Ad performance data is collected to ensure proper reward delivery
  • We do not share your translation content with advertisers
  • Ad data is separate from your translation content
  • AdMob (Google) handles ad delivery and may collect standard ad metrics

8. Payment and Billing

ZedTranslate offers premium features through in-app purchases and subscriptions:

  • All payments are processed through Google Play Store or Apple App Store
  • Subscription fees are charged according to your chosen plan
  • Premium features include unlimited translations, ad-free experience, and advanced features
  • Refunds are subject to the respective app store's refund policy
  • Subscription auto-renewal can be managed through your app store account
  • We do not store your payment information directly
  • Payment data is handled securely by the app store platforms

9. User Accounts and Authentication

ZedTranslate offers optional account creation for enhanced features:

  • Account creation is optional and not required for basic app functionality
  • You can sign up using email or Google authentication
  • Account data includes email, display name, and app preferences
  • You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials
  • Account data is used to sync preferences and provide personalized features
  • You can delete your account and associated data at any time
  • Account deletion will remove all associated user data from our systems

10. Third-Party Services

ZedTranslate integrates with various third-party services to provide functionality:

  • Google Services: Used for authentication, analytics, and ML Kit for text recognition
  • Firebase: Used for app analytics, crash reporting, and optional user accounts
  • Translation APIs: Used to provide translation services
  • Ad Networks: Used to display advertisements and support the free app model

13. Version Support and Updates

ZedTranslate is regularly updated to improve functionality and security:

  • Older versions may have limited functionality or security vulnerabilities
  • Updates may include new features, bug fixes, and security improvements
  • Some features may require the latest app version
  • We recommend keeping the app updated for the best experience
  • Critical security updates will be pushed to all supported versions

14. Disclaimer and Independence

ZedTranslate is an independent language translation application developed to support Zambian languages and cultural preservation. This app is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or associated with any linguistic institution, university language department, professional linguist organization, or language research company.

All translation content, language data, cultural information, and educational materials provided in this application have been independently compiled and developed. Any similarities to content from other sources are purely coincidental.

Users are advised to verify important translations and cultural information through additional sources when accuracy is critical for official, legal, or professional purposes.
